چکیده

The ̄uorescence quenching rate constants of pyrene monomer and excimer by CH3I were obtained at several temperatures in methylcyclohexane. Both quenching processes are kinetically controlled, allowing insight on the mechanism of quenching. The rate constants have both temperature-independent and temperature-dependent components. The temperature-independent component for both monomer and excimer ̄uorescence is consistent with quenching due to enhanced intersystem crossing to a lower energy triplet state. The monomer temperature-dependent component comes from the enhancement of the intersystem crossing to a higher energy triplet state. The thermally activated excimer quenching is associated with the excimer dissociation step to give a pyrene in a second triplet state plus a ground state pyrene molecule. Ó 2001 Elsevier Science B.V. 7-Deazapurine and 8-aza-7-deazapurine nucleoside and oligonucleotide pyrene "click" conjugates: synthesis, nucleobase controlled fluorescence quenching, and duplex stability.

7-Deazapurine and 8-aza-7-deazapurine nucleosides related to dA and dG bearing 7-octadiynyl or 7-tripropargylamine side chains as well as corresponding oligonucleotides were synthesized. "Click" conjugation with 1-azidomethyl pyrene (10) resulted in fluorescent derivatives. Octadiynyl conjugates show only monomer fluorescence, while the proximal alignment of pyrene residues in the tripropargyla...

Fluorescence emission of pyrene in surfactant solutions.

The systematic description of the complex photophysical behaviour of pyrene in surfactant solutions in combination with a quantitative model for the surfactant concentrations reproduces with high accuracy the steady-state and the time resolved fluorescence intensity of pyrene in surfactant solutions near the cmc, both in the monomer and in the excimer emission bands. We present concise model eq...

Comparison of the oxygen sensor performance of some pyrene derivatives in silicone polymer matrix

Pyrene and its derivatives find application as fluorescent probes for monitoring the oxygen concentrations in air and various fluids. Photophysical characteristics of some commercially available derivatives of pyrene in silicone polymer matrix were studied in order to find out whether they could be employed as a substitute for pyrene in the pressure sensitive paint (PSP). The derivatives under ...

Fluorescence properties of pyrene derivative aggregates formed in polymer matrix depending on concentration.

We investigated the fluorescence properties of dye aggregates formed in a poly(vinylalcohol) (PVA) matrix by phase separation. Trimethyl-(2-oxo-2-pyrene-1-yl-ethyl)-ammonium bromide (PyAm) was used as a fluorescent dye molecule. The size of PyAm aggregates in the PVA thin films were increased with increasing dye concentration, which was confirmed by atomic force microscope (AFM) measurements. T...

Pyrene-fullerene C60 dyads as light-harvesting antennas.

A series of pyrene-fullerene C60 dyads bearing pyrene units (PyFC12, PyFPy, Py2FC12 and PyFN) were synthesized and characterized. Their optical properties were studied by absorption and fluorescence spectroscopies. Dyads were designed in this way because the pyrene moeities act as light-harvesting molecules and are able to produce "monomer" (PyFC12) or excimer emission (PyFPy, Py2FC12 and PyFN)...
